AFTERCARE

Now, you have your new tattoo it is very important that you follow these guidelines for the best healing of your tattoo.

Leave The Bandage Alone! Your tattooist took the care to cover up your new tattoo for a very good reason - to keep air-born bacteria from invading your wound. Yes, as pretty as your new tattoo is, it is still a wound.

You will leave with your tattoo covered. Leave the covering on for a minimum of two hours. We recommend after you remove the bandage, you will want to wash your tattoo really well. Use lukewarm running water and a mild unscented or antibacterial soap to gently but thoroughly wash away any blood and ink to completely clean the area. We recommend using your hand to really rub and clean the area and do this as much as you can in the next 2 days. Don't be afraid to use FIRM pressure to rub your tattoo clean in the shower with your hand. Then pat dry (do not rub) the area with a clean towel until it’s completely dry. We highly recommend re-covering your tattoo (without any creams) before putting clothing on top or sleeping for the next 2 days. This is certainly best way to help healing and minimise scabbing. Especially if your tattoo is a larger with more then just line work.

If you were given second skin to use it can be applied on Day 2 to a clean and dry tattoo. “Crack” the wave by bending the piece in half at the green stripe. Expose the sticky side by peeling off the backing printed side. Smooth SecondSkin over the tattoo pushing out any air bubbles. Remove supportive clear backing by peeling it off and smoothing over skin. In the first 24 hours, there may be a build up of plasma under the SecondSkin. This is completely normal. You may opt to change the dressing. Whether or not you change your bandage, leave it on for an additional three to six days. To remove slowly pull the film off. Do not pull it straight up away from the skin. Instead, pull the film back and across the skin while holding your skin taut.

Once removed keep your tattoo clean and start using an aftercare cream as needed. If not, and you purchased an aftercare product you can start using this or a similar ointment such as Bepanthen from day 2. Use sparingly and assure the cream is fully rubbed in to the skin.

Continue this for at least 3 times a day for 5-7 days or until your tattoo has fully healed. Avoid baths, swimming pools, salt water, saunas etc for the next 2 weeks. Use sun protection 30+ or greater on your healed tattoos whenever exposed to ultraviolet rays. It’s always good to use a light daily moisturiser from here on in.
